Walden & Latta Urge Trump Administration to Fill Upcoming CPSC Vacancy

WASHINGTON, DC – Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Subcommittee Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH) today sent a letter to President Donald Trump urging him to prioritize the nomination process for a soon-to-be vacant seat at the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Appointing a Republican to this seat when the vacancy opens in October will provide a functioning majority to the five-seat CPSC.

The leaders write, “For the next five months, the five-seat CPSC will operate with three Democratic Commissioners outnumbering the two Republican Commissioners. In October 2017, the Senate will be able to confirm your administration’s nominee for an expiring seat on the Commission. Without such action, the Democratic Commissioner will remain in a one-year holdover term exacerbating the current imbalance.”

They conclude, “We urge you to identify and nominate a commissioner to the CPSC as soon as practicable.”
